FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OCTOBER 16, 2009
WILMINGTON, Massachusetts, October 16, 2009 Dimensional Photonics International, Inc. (DPI), a leading developer of high performance three-dimensional (3D) digital shape scanners will be attending the American Society of Anesthesiologists' Annual Meeting in New Orleans October 17-21, 2009. The purpose of attending the meetings is to further explore the potential uses of DPI's proprietary technology to meet the needs of the medical profession.
DPI has been engaged in conversations with leading experts across many aspects of medicine and life science. These discussions have identified a number of promising matches between unmet or underserved needs in medicine and life science with current and future capabilities of DPI's proprietary technology. The potential opportunities are in diagnostics, surgery and other routine medical procedures.
As an illustration, Dr. Jacek A. Wojtczak, M.D., Ph.D., from University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (Rochester, New York) will make a presentation titled "Accuracy of Low-Cost 3D Surface Contour Laser Scanner for the Quantitative Evaluation of the Airway". Dr. Wojtczak approached DPI as a potential solutions provider to explore new approaches to preoperative airway evaluation.
"We are excited about the opportunities ahead," says Olaf N. Krohg, DPI’s CEO. "We have identified potential opportunities across a wide and varied range of healthcare, medical and life science fields from dermatology, endoscopes for diagnostics, preoperative and surgical applications to scanning ears for hearing aid fitting."
ABOUT DPI
Dimensional Photonics International, Inc. (DPI) is a world leading developer of advanced three-dimensional (3D) measurement and shape capture technology. Originally conceived at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Lincoln Laboratory in the late 1990s, the proprietary technology is today among the most accurate and versatile 3D scanning technologies. The technology is protected by an extensive patent portfolio of over 30 patents.
DPI's proprietary technology is highly accurate and scalable, and capable of scanning challenging surfaces such as shiny metals and translucent materials. The technology can be scaled to scan objects from nano-scale to several meters in three dimensions. DPI has delivered large-scale 3D measurement systems to the aerospace industry and is now focused on developing technologies for the medical and life science uses.
