About Us

Dimensional Photonics International, Inc. (DPI) designs, manufactures, and markets three-dimensional (3D) digital shape scanning (DSS) systems. DPI's scanners are based on a revolutionary technology called Accordion Fringe Interferometry (AFI) originally developed at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

DPI is a technology leader in rapid and ultra-accurate 3D measurement systems. DPI has developed a large-scale 3D scanning and measurement system for use in industrial markets and manufacturing. In 2008, DPI sold the rights to the industrial market to a major international metrology company. DPI continues to develop its technology, and the next product is an advanced intra-oral scanner.

The company is headquartered north of Boston, Massachusetts near the intersection of Route 128 and I-93.

DPI's corporate vision is to become the world's most valued supplier of digital shape scanning systems (DSS) for a variety of settings and applications. A DSS system captures three-dimensional shapes using light to create a point cloud that represents the surface of a real object being scanned.

In a 2005 Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) blue book, Peter Marks describes the Digital Shape Scanning and Processing (DSSP) revolution and asserts that point cloud generation is one of two key functions that enable this new industry. The other function, which is the focus of our partners such as Geomagic, comprises the point processing side of DSSP.

In the years ahead, DPI aims to be recognized as the world as the most innovative and reliable partner in the digital shape scanning business.
