Leading developer of 3D shape capture technology

Dimensional Photonics International, Inc. (DPI) is a leading developer of advanced three-dimensional (3D) measurement and shape capture technology. Originally conceived at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Lincoln Laboratory in the late 1990s, the proprietary technology is today among the most accurate and versatile 3D scanning technologies. The technology is protected by an extensive patent portfolio of over 30 patents.

DPI’s proprietary technology is highly accurate and scalable, and capable of scanning challenging surfaces such as shiny and translucent materials.

DPI has delivered large-scale 3D measurement systems to the aerospace industry and is now focused on developing products for medical and life science professionals.

From aerospace to healthcare

Initially focused on the exacting measurement needs of the aerospace industry, DPI left the industrial metrology industry via a 2008 transaction with FARO Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: FARO), the leading supplier of portable, software driven, 3-D measurement systems. DPI’s new focus is on the development of advanced 3D medical devices and analytical instruments. The first such medical device is a real-time intra-oral scanner for dentistry.

Other future uses of DPI’s proprietary technology in life sciences and healthcare include diagnostics, surgical assistance, dermatology, microscopy and tomography.
